Why I Chose LASIK Surgery With Dr. Dan Zimmer and InSight LASIK & Refractive Group

Like many of you I’ve worn contacts/glasses most of my life (since the 7th grade). I’m a very active person, always have been, so glasses weren’t really an option so I basically went straight into contacts which at the time wasn’t really something people did. I hated (and normally I wouldn’t use the word hate but in this case it’s the correct term) putting in my contacts and taking them out every night… Hated it!!!

So when extended wear contacts came out I jumped at the chance to wear them the only problem was I didn’t listen to the doctors and wore all the time never taking them out unless it was to change them. Which is not good for your eye at all, so I was ruining my eyes, and as I aged I noticed my eyes were getting tired quicker and had trouble getting them to focus in the morning all because of over wearing my contacts.

I’d thought about having LASIK surgery in the past, but I never really looked into the way I should’t have. So the months/years would go by and my eyes were getting worse and my frustration with contacts continued to grow.

When I finally looked into having the surgery, everything, and I mean everything kept pointing me back to Dr. Dan Zimmer and InSight LASIK & Refractive Group. Dr. Zimmer has been doing this for over 20 years and has done over 20 thousand of these surgeries, and let’s be honest when it comes to your eyes you want someone you can trust and has the experience. Lynn, their patient coordinator, makes you feel very much as part of the family and takes away your fears, and is very reassuring.

So the more I thought about it, the more it made sense to have it done and to have it done at InSight LASIK & Refractive Group. The procedure took lest then 5 minutes including prep time. I went from 20/300 to 20/15 in a matter of seconds (11 on my right, and 13 on my left) and I could see right away…

Look the bottom line is “do you want to take back control of your sight and thereby your life?” If you answered YES then this is the way to do it. Since my procedure on May 9th, I’ve been able to wake up in the morning and see right away and do the things I enjoy without the fear of losing a contact. The freedom that comes with having LASIK is truly life changing. I could go on and on, but what it really comes down to… “Are you will to take that step to have a better quality of life?” If so do yourself the favor and call Lynn and Dr. Zimmer at InSight LASIK and make your appointment to see if LASIK is right for you. You have nothing to lose, the consultation is free. It will be one of, if not, the best decision you can make.

Convenience & Comfort at The Surgery Center at Cranberry

There are many reasons why people have their surgery at an Ambulatory Surgery Center instead of a Hospital. Patients have told us that convenience and comfort was a real benefit for them. Our patients matter to us, so we are always looking to provide them with everything they need to make their visits and surgeries as pleasant as possible.

Conveniently located in Cranberry Township, you won’t have to worry about fighting Pittsburgh city traffic on your way. Here at The Surgery Center at Cranberry we provide you with free, convenient parking. At most hospitals you have to deal with paying for parking, or finding a spot in a parking garage. All of the parking at our surgery center is on location and very close to the front door. For your added convenience, we have also provide a covered drop off zone at the front door.

Here at SCAC we know that your time is valuable and that’s why we offer same-day outpatient services and also require less paperwork for admission and discharge. Comfort is important to our patients and their guests with our clean waiting room, and providing a wide range of complimentary refreshments; including coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and soda. These are provided for both the patient, and their guest that accompanies them to the surgery center.

The Patient Ambassador Program, is a program that is offered at the Surgery Center at Cranberry where a group  of dedicated volunteers ensure that patients are comfortable before and after their procedure. They do simple things for patient comfort including providing beverages, blankets or sharing their own personal experience from their procedure. If a patient requests prayer then they will also pray with any patients. Patients who request the services of an ambassador tend to be more relaxed and comfortable prior to going into surgery.

LASIK Recovery Tips

LASIK surgery is a great way for people to enhance the quality of their vision without the use of eyeglasses or contact lenses. If you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism, LASIK may be just what you’ve always wanted. When you visit the Pittsburgh area LASIK center of InSight SM LASIK & Refractive Group, we will perform a full vision evaluation to determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK or another refractive surgery option such as Pittsburgh PRK.
After you have undergone LASIK or PRK, it’s important that you follow our instructions for post-operative care. Following these instructions will reduce the chances of serious complications following surgery and will ensure that you heal and are fully recovered in as little time as possible. We’ll go over these issues in greater detail during the consultation process, but we’d like to briefly cover these issues  right now so you know what to expect.
The recovery period after LASIK is generally short compared to other surgeries. This is because the surgery is rather discreet in nature. In the first 24 hours after the surgery, avoid reading, watching television, using the computer, and any other activities that may put strain on your eyes. You will want to remain as relaxed as possible, and it’s important that you get a lot of rest in this initial period.
Be sure to wear sunglasses at all times for the first few days in order prevent irritation from the sun. Avoid rubbing your eyes during the first several days after LASIK surgery, and be sure to take baths rather than showers for the first day or two as you want to avoid water getting into your eyes during this period. Do not use eye make-up for the first week after LASIK surgery. Again, it’s important that you avoid potentially irritating your eyes.
In addition to the above, you will need to visit the Surgery Center in Cranberry Township which is just minutes from Butler, Wexford, and Mars. Or our Scott & Christie and Associates Fox Chapel location, for your follow-up appointments after your surgery. The purpose of these appointments will be to monitor your progress and ensure that you are healing properly. If you face any major pain or irritation during the recovery period, you are encouraged to call us and visit the office so we can see how you’re doing.
